Marquette's Lyon Picks Up Weekly Awards
Oct. 6, 2014
MILWAUKEE - After a stellar week in goal, Marquette University men's soccer redshirt senior Charlie Lyon received BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors.
Lyon has now recorded clean sheets against seven straight opponents and has not allowed a goal in 718:39 minutes - both program records. In the 2-0 victory over the Badgers on Wednesday, Lyon tied a season high with five saves and in the 0-0 draw against No. 7 Georgetown, Lyon made three saves. He faced 13 shots from a Hoyas offense on Saturday that ranks in the top three of every major offensive category in the BIG EAST.
MU improved its record to 6-2-1 after shutting out Wisconsin (Oct. 1) and Georgetown (Oct. 4) last week.
The 2013 BIG EAST Co-Goalkeeper of the Year now has 27 career shutouts in 52 career starts, which is tied for fourth among all active NCAA Division I goalkeepers and leaves him one shy of matching the program record. The St. Charles, Illinois, native is currently fourth in the NCAA in goals against average (0.33) and save percentage (.906).
Marquette returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7:05 p.m. against St. John's at Valley Fields.
