Oct. 8, 2013
MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University men's soccer team returns home to Valley Fields this week to host nationally ranked BIG EAST Conference newcomers Butler (Wednesday, Oct. 9) and Creighton (Saturday, Oct. 12).
MU (6-3-1 overall), ranked No. 28 in this week's Rating Percentage Index (RPI), is undefeated in league play at 2-0-0, coming off a thrilling 1-0 overtime win at Villanova on Saturday in which leading goal-scorer C. Nortey notched the game-winning tally in the 95th minute. Nortey also scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win at Xavier a week prior in the BIG EAST opener.
Goalkeeper Charlie Lyon recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season, finishing with a season-high seven saves in the road victory at Villanova.
Fans will experience Wednesday's match against the Bulldogs (8-2-1, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) by watching the action from the newly constructed bleachers at The Valley for the first time since completion, followed by an official "grand opening" slated for Saturday's game against Creighton. The Bluejays (6-2-2, 2-0-1 BIG EAST) were the top-ranked team in the nation earlier this season.
All fans in attendance Wednesday evening will have a chance to meet their favorite Marquette men's soccer players for a post-match autograph session, and will receive double Fanatic points. Admission as always is free to students, and is $5 for adults and $3 for youths 18 and under.
Come out Wednesday night as Valley Fields unveils its brand new set of bleachers, and make sure to return this weekend on Oct. 12 and 13 for the grand opening of the new and improved home of Marquette soccer.
