Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Marquette University men’s soccer midfielder Luka Prpa has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

The Wind Lake, Wisconsin native added another weekly accolade to his stellar debut season with the Golden Eagles after scoring the equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Georgetown at Valley Fields on Saturday. The goal was his first in BIG EAST action and came on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

Prpa collected BIG EAST Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week honors back on Sept. 5, after back-to-back six-point performances in wins over Northern Illinois (Aug. 29) and UIC (Sept. 2). He was recognized on the national scene as well, being named to three national teams of the week, as well as earning National Player of the Week awards by both the NSCAA and Top Drawer Soccer.

The rookie midfielder leads Marquette and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 17 points on six goals and five assists. The Golden Eagles take on No. 10 Creighton on the road in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 15.
