Official BIG EAST Release
NEW YORK – Thanks to a pair of 1-0 shutouts last week, freshman Luis Barraza was named by the BIG EAST Conference as Goalkeeper of the Week, while senior forward David Selvaggi was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced today, Oct. 12.
Barraza posted a 2-0 record for the Golden Eagles (5-4-2, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) with back-to-back 1-0 shutouts over in-state rival Wisconsin (Oct. 7) followed by league foe Seton Hall (Oct. 10) – MU’s first BIG EAST win in 2015.
The Santa Teresa, N.M. native now has four shutouts during his rookie campaign and, thanks to eight saves last week, is second in the league with 48 saves on the season. Barraza has started all 11 games for MU this year, sporting a solid 1.32 GAA with a .762 save percentage.
Selvaggi picks up his first weekly award this season with a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this week following his fourth goal of the year in the 52nd minute in the win over Seton Hall on Saturday. The goal amounted to his fourth career game-winning score, including his second this year – the other coming in the 68th minute of a 3-2 win over Dayton back on Sept. 7.
The Elmhurst, Illinois native is second on the team with nine points scored this season on a career-high four goals and one assist.
Marquette will hit the road to take on No. 12 Georgetown Wednesday, Oct. 14, in Washington, D.C.
