MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team had two players earn BIG EAST weekly honors, as freshman midfielder Sebastian Jansson was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and junior David Check received BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

College Soccer News also tabbed Jansson to its National Team of the Week and ranked Marquette No. 30 in its latest poll.

MU defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents to open a three-game home series this past week. Marquette blanked No. 12 Notre Dame 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 12, before knocking off No. 23 West Virginia 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Jansson scored both of the Golden Eagles' game-winners, including his first collegiate goal in the shutout over the Fighting Irish, which he followed with a 79th-minute tally to top WVU. The Sodertalje, Sweden, native was also named the GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete of the Week.

Check collected 10 saves on the week, with a .909 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average to help Marquette beat the Mountaineers for the first time in program history and lead MU to its first victory over Notre Dame since 1990. It is the third time in Check's career that he received conference goalkeeper of the week honors.

Marquette improved to 5-0-0 in league play for the first time in team history and sit atop the Blue Division standings with 15 points heading into this Wednesday's 7:05 p.m. tilt with Georgetown.
