MILWAUKEE -- After tallying five points in two games last week, Marquette University junior Calum Mallace was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday. The honor is the first of the season for Mallace and second of his career.
The midfielder assisted the lone Marquette goal in a 4-1 loss at No. 21 Notre Dame, and netted two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 shutout of Syracuse.
Against the Orange, Mallace scored the game-winner in the 19th minute after beating two defenders at the corner of the box and shot the ball inside the far post. In the 82nd minute, he netted a penalty kick following an Orange handball for a security goal. The game-winner was the third of the season for Mallace and seventh of his career. His two goal effort was the first multi-goal game of the season for Marquette, which advanced to 5-4-4 overall (2-1-2 BIG EAST).
Mallace leads the team with 14 points from five shots and four assists. He is also tops on the squad with three game-winning goals, 54 shots and 21 shots on goal. In the BIG EAST Conference, Mallace leads the league in shots and shots per game, and is sixth in points. His five total goals place him in seventh in the BIG EAST.
