With a perfect 12 points, Marquette enters the weekend atop the BIG EAST Conference standings for the second consecutive weekend. MU has four one-goal victories in its four conference matches. The Golden Eagles defeated Xavier and Villanova on the road before knocking off nationally ranked Butler and Creighton last week at home.
Providence, which cracked the top-25 earlier this month, is tied with Butler for second place in the BIG EAST with nine points each on matching 3-1-0 records in league play. The Friars' lone BIG EAST setback was a 1-0 loss to preseason favorite Georgetown back on Oct. 5 in their only home loss of the season. Providence has also blanked No. 14 St. John's and DePaul by 1-0 decisions after a 3-1 win over Seton Hall in the BIG EAST opener. The Friars were unbeaten in their first seven matches before Virginia (L, 0-4) handed them their first loss of the season. Providence has since won three of its last four.
Marquette has taken three points on the road in its last two meetings against Providence, including a 2-0 shutout last Sept. 29. The Friars own a 5-2-0 advantage in the all-time series after winning the first five match-up versus the Blue & Gold by a combined margin of 7-0.
