Prpa's Play Earns National Recognition Once Again
Oct. 25, 2016
MILWAUKEE – Freshman midfielder Luka Prpa has reeled in a couple more distinct honors this week as he was named to both the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week for the second time this season.
The Wind Lake, Wisconsin native earned his third BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week award yesterday and once again claims national recognition after his two-goal effort, including the match-winner, in a 4-1 win over Xavier last Saturday.
Prpa drew a handball with a shot in the penalty area in the 10th minute and proceeded to convert the PK to give Marquette a 1-0 lead. Then in the 18th minute, he finished a cross from redshirt junior Daniel Szczepanek to make it 2-0 and the goal held up as Marquette went on to win 4-1.
He’s no stranger to national attention in his debut season. Back in early-September, Top Drawer Soccer and the NSCAA named Prpa as their National Player of the Week, while both TDS and College Soccer News selected him to their National Teams of the Week, following his back-to-back six-point performances against Northern Illinois (Aug. 29) and UIC (Sept. 2).
Currently, Prpa leads Marquette with 22 points on eight goals and six assists on the year, which also ranks tied for second in the conference behind Butler’s David Goldsmith, who has 23 points on 10 goals and three assists.
Marquette is in action this week for its final two road matches of the regular season, taking on Providence on Wednesday, Oct. 26, followed by a match-up at Butler on Saturday, Oct. 29.
