Marquette earned the sixth and final slot in the BIG EAST tournament by defeating DePaul 4-0 in the final match of the regular season (Nov. 7). The victory brought MU to 10 points in the BIG EAST, one point above Seton Hall. Entering Friday's match against DePaul, the Golden Eagles needed help from Xavier in order to get past Butler in the standings. The Musketeers defeated the Bulldogs 2-0, allowing MU to reach postseason play.

Georgetown finished third in the ultra-competitive BIG EAST Conference with 19 points and enters the league tournament on a four-match win streak. The Hoyas six wins in conference play is tied for the second best total in the league and they have only given up one goal in the last four contests.

Marquette is looking for its first win at Shaw Field (0-4-1) and Georgetown owns a 9-1-1 all-time series advantage over MU. Earlier this season, MU and Georgetown tied 0-0 in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 4.
