MILWAUKEE -- Four members of the Marquette University men's soccer team received recognition from the BIG EAST Conference for their on-field performance in 2014, the league announced Wednesday.

MU placed three student-athletes, including sophomore midfielder Louis Bennett II, redshirt junior forward C. Nortey and redshirt junior Axel Sjoberg, on the All-BIG EAST First Team list. Redshirt freshman Alex McBride earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.

This is the second All-BIG EAST First Team selection for both Nortey and Sjoberg, who also earned the distinction in 2013.

Nortey led this year's squad with 16 points (7g, 2a) with Bennett II not too far behind with 14 points (4g, 6a). Bennett II led the team in assists and was also second in goals behind Nortey. Sjoberg anchored a stellar MU defense that blanked nine opponents in 2014. From the center-back position, Sjoberg also tallied three assists, third most on the team.

Marquette, which was nationally ranked in all the major polls for most of the 2014 campaign, finished the regular season with an 8-5-4 overall record (2-3-4 in the BIG EAST) and secured the sixth seed in the 2014 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship by finishing with 10 points in BIG EAST play.
