MU Represented In College Sports Madness Men's Soccer All-American Teams
Nov. 12, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Four members of the No. 10/7 Marquette University men's soccer team have been named to the 2012 College Sports Madness Men's Soccer All-American Teams.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Lyon garnered first team honors and junior Bryan Ciesiulka was named to the second team, while senior Andy Huftalin and junior Paul Dillon received third team recognition.
Lyon has been in net for every game this season, helping Marquette to a 16-3-1 overall record. The St. Charles, Ill., native has tied a single-season program record with 10 shutouts on the year, and currently boasts a 0.77 goals against average.
Ciesiulka, an MU co-captain, has played key a role in creating offense for the Golden Eagles. The junior midfielder is tied for second on the team in scoring with 19 points (5 goals, 9 assists) this season. Ciesiulka's nine assists through 19 games played gives him the second-best assist per game average (0.47) in the BIG EAST.
Huftalin leads Marquette in scoring with 10 goals and four assists. Four of his team-best 10 goals have been game winners, including the decisive goals against Wisconsin (Sept. 26) and then-No. 2 Connecticut (Oct. 16).
Dillon is an integral part of a Marquette back line that has only surrendered 16 goals in 20 contests this season. Along with his standout defensive play, Dillion has made significant contributions to MU's offensive effort by recording nine assists of his own, matching Ciesiulka's total.
Marquette's 16-3-1 record on the season puts it in a favorable position to earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship's field of 48. The Golden Eagles will host an NCAA selection show viewing party Monday afternoon at the Union Sports Annex, located at the corner of N. 16th street and Wells. All are invited to attend the event starting at 4 p.m. CT.
