2013 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Annual Banquet

CHESTER, Pa. - Seven members of the Marquette University men's soccer team received recognition from the BIG EAST Conference, including Co-Midfielder of the Year Bryan Ciesiulka and Charlie Lyon, who shared Goalkeeper of the Year honors. The accolades were announced at the league's annual awards banquet Thursday night at PPL Park.

Both Ciesiulka and Lyon also earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team alongside teammates C. Nortey (forward) and Axel Sjoberg (defender). Eric Pothast (defender) and Louis Bennett II (midfielder) received BIG EAST Honorable Mention, while Bennett II joined fellow freshman Coco Navarro (forward) on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. Bennett II was a unanimous selection for the All-Rookie Team.

Marquette, which was nationally ranked in all the major polls for most of the 2013 campaign, finished the regular season with a 10-5-2 overall record and captured a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title with a 6-2-1 mark and 19 points in league play. It was MU's second conference championship in three years.

Ciesiulka and Lyon join Calum Mallace (2011 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year) as the only Marquette players to take home major postseason honors from the league since the Golden Eagles joined the BIG EAST in 2005. Mallace helped lead MU to a BIG EAST Blue Division title in 2011.

Seven players are the most MU players honored by the BIG EAST in a single season.

Marquette, the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship, will play the sixth-seeded Butler Bulldogs in a semifinal match at PPL Park on Friday, Nov. 15. The winner will advance to the finals on Sunday, Nov. 17 and will face the winner of No. 1 Georgetown vs. No. 4 Providence.
