Nov. 16, 2016

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University head coach Louis Bennett and his staff presented the team awards at the squad's annual end-of-the-year banquet.

The annual awards banquet recognized the team's leaders and top performers on-and-off the pitch during the 2016 season and provided an opportunity to thank all the program's support staff involved throughout the year.

Freshman Luka Prpa added a few more items to his hardware collection after being honored with the Players' Choice award, Rookie of the Year and the Golden Boot award after leading the team with 26 points on 10 goals and six assists.

Redshirt junior Daniel Szczepanek collected Most Improved Player honors after starting every match and finishing tied for second on the team with 10 points after scoring three goals and four assists.

The Milwaukee native holds a 3.79 cumulative grade point average, double-majoring in accounting and operation supply chain management at Marquette. He was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team for his work on the field and in the classroom.

The Man of the Year award was presented to the student-athlete that provided not only an impact on the field, but off of it as well. Redshirt senior Mac Wheeler personified those qualities as a co-team captain during the 2016 season.

The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 5-7-4, while improving its scoring output by six goals in one fewer contest and outscoring opponents by a margin of 26-23. Marquette featured one of the youngest rosters in the BIG EAST in 2016 with 22 of the 27 players comprised of freshmen and sophomores.
