Golden Eagles Defeat UIC, 1-0, in First Spring Match

Dec. 30, 2009

Three Marquette University men's soccer players have been named to the 2009 NSCAA Wisconsin All-State Team it was recently announced. Senior goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski, sophomore defender Scott Miller and sophomore midfielder Calum Mallace represented the Golden Eagles on the 14-person squad, which includes all NCAA Division I and Division II schools in the state.

Pyzdrowski solidified himself as one of the most talented keepers in the BIG EAST Conference this past season with a 1.18 goals against average and a single-season career best five shutouts and 58 saves.

Following a medical redshirt season, Miller emerged as a team leader in 2009 and his presence on the pitch helped MU reach the first round of the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship for the first time in school history. The Golden Eagles' captain played in 17 games and led the team in minutes played (1,629).

For the second straight season, Mallace delivered the game-winning goal against crosstown rival Milwaukee. He finished the season with three goals, each a game-winner, and led the squad with 24 shots on goal.
