Steve Adlard's Premier Soccer Camps
2002 Day Camps
Each session is designed specifically to meet the needs of players at
different skill levels. Call the Marquette Men's Soccer Office at (414)

Session 1
What to look forward to:
Curriculum will specialize in the fundamentals: shot-stopping, taking
crosses, 1-on-1 breakaways and distribution, and will also apply those
techniques in game situations. Agility and footwork are emphasized and
time will be spent on physical and mental preparation for the position.
The staff, under the direction of Steve Adlard (National Goalkeeping Staff
Member), are all goalkeepers who have worked with or played for coach
Adlard. They are committed educators who have extensive camp experience.
Marquette University Valley Fields, located on the Marquette campus, is the
perfect site for the goalkeeper camp. It takes place on Marquette's
collegiate soccer field, which is full size and beautifully maintained.
The ratio of coach to players is 8:1 for all training

What to look forward to:

Session 3
What to look forward to:
This year's format and curriculum will focus on the fundamentals, but will
have a special emphasis on shooting, often in competitive settings (4 vs.
4). Each session will conclude with competitive scrimmages that
incorporate skills learned throughout the day. Friday will feature a fun
intra-age round-robin series of games. Parents are welcome!

Session 4
What to look forward to:
Players can look forward to sessions which are performed at game speed and
geared to help players think and act more quickly during match play. Most
training sessions will finish with small sided scrimmages. These will be
structured in a way that will reinforce skills and tactics acquired
throughout the camp.

Coaching Staff
Steve Adlard is in his eleventh year as the Head Men's Soccer Coach
at Marquette University. During Adlard's tenure, MU has consistently
received national recognition, highlighted by their 2000 season ranking of
#7, the program's highest ever. MU earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament
bid in 1997 and were co-champions of Conference USA. In 1993, he was
honored by his peers as the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year. Adlard
came to Marquette following four years as the Director of Soccer at the
University of North Carolina-Asheville, making the Big South Tournament for
the only four times in school history. Prior to UNC-Asheville, Adlard was
the Head Coach at Davis & Elkins where he earned Mid-Atlantic Coach of the
Year honors in 1986 and guided the team to the Division II national
semifinals. Previously, he was an assistant for the Evansville Purple
Aces.
A former goalkeeper, Adlard played with professional clubs
Nottingham Forest and Lincoln City in England. He also represented England
in internationals at schoolboy, youth and university levels. He holds U.S.
and English FA coaching licenses and is a graduate of Loughborough College
in England, where he earned a physical education degree. Adlard is also a
state and regional coach in the Olympic Development Program for Regions II
and IV.
Markus Roeders
Markus is in his seventh year as head coach of the Marquette Golden Eagles
women's team. The 1999 season was a year to remember for the women's
program. Marquette won the Conference USA tournament and received their
first ever NCAA Tournament bid. In their last two years, Roeders' quad has
reinforced their place as one of the nation's elite ith a repeat of both
their C-USA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000 and a third
consecutive NCAA Tourney appearance in 2001. Roeders was named the C-USA
Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2000. Markus in an ODP staff coach.
Frank Pelaez
Jim Welch
Jim Welch is in his second year as an assistant for both the men's and
women's squads at Marquette. Following his four years as the Golden
Eagles' goalkeeper, where he garnered 1st Team All-Conference and
All-Region honors, Welch played professionally as a member of the MLS
project-40 and Los Angeles Galaxy teams. In 2000, Jim spent a year with
the Milwaukee Rampage. Prior to coming to Marquette, Welch earned
All-American honors and was a member of the U-18 and U-20 United States
National Team squads. Jim is also a member of the Wisconsin ODP Coaching
staff.
