Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team (2-0) opened the dual match portion of its 2007-08 campaign Saturday afternoon with a pair of non-conference victories over UIC and IUPUI at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center.

The Golden Eagles earned two 7-0 victories and dropped just two sets combined in singles and doubles competition. Each of the eight available players on the roster was able to see action Saturday.

"One of the strengths of this team is its depth and I think you saw that today," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "It was a team effort from top to bottom. I have a lot of guys who have gained valuable experience and I have confidence plugging them into the lineup."

Sophomore transfer Dusan Medan made his Golden Eagle dual match debut and found himself penciled into the No. 1 singles position. He responded with a pair of straight-set wins and also picked up a pair of doubles victories. Medan is now 16-4 overall in singles action and tops the roster in wins.

Senior Brett Binkley and sophomore Mark Rutherford returned to the court together in doubles action, earning an 8-2 win over UIC's tandem and a hard-fought 8-7 victory against IUPUI. Both of the matchups came at the No. 1 spot and pushed the duo's overall record to 16-4.

"It was a very good start to a long season and we still have some things to work on," Rodecap added.
