Marquette Falls 7-0 At No. 25 Minnesota In Dual Lidlifter

The Marquette University men’s tennis team (0-1) opened its 2011-12 dual match campaign Saturday night with a 7-0 loss at No. 25 Minnesota (1-0) in non-conference action. The Golden Gophers opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point, earning victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Sophomore Dan Mamalat and junior Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley were able to claim an impressive 8-5 win over 55th-ranked Phillip Arndt and Leandro Toledo at the No. 1 spot. Marquette was unable to secure a singles victory, with Gutierrez Crowley dropping a tough 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7) decision to Arndt at the No. 1 position. Also claiming a set victory was freshman Vukasin Teofanovic, who eventually fell 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Combined with fellow newcomers Cameron Tehrani and James Stark (No. 3 doubles), head coach Steve Rodecap’s lineup included three rookies to dual match competition. The Golden Eagles open the home portion of their dual match schedule Friday night when the squad hosts IUPUI at 6 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Center. No. 25 Minnesota 7 Singles 1.
