Marquette Opens Homestand With 6-1 Victory Over IUPUI

The Marquette University men's tennis team (1-1) opened a five-match homestand Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory against IUPUI (0-5) at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles continue their homestand Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. CT when the team faces UIC in non-conference action. MU opened the match by claiming a hard-fought doubles point, claiming two of the three outings. Junior Dan Mamalat and sophomore Vukasin Teofanovic made quick work of their opponent at the No. 1 position, downing the Jaguar tandem 8-2. After falling at the No. 3 spot, Marquette earned the point with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 by junior Logon Collins and sophomore Cameron Tehrani. Teofanovic and Tehrani pushed the Golden Eagles ahead 3-0 with straight-set wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Teofanovic defeated the Jaguars' Thomas Gans and Tehrani was victorious 6-2, 6-2 over Louis Sacks. "Getting the doubles point is always important, especially when it comes down to the deciding match," Tehrani said. "We were able to build up some confidence as a team and carry that momentum over to singles." Freshman Gleb Sklyr secured the team victory with his first career dual-match win, posting a 7-6, 6-3 win over IUPUI's Armaan Choudhary.
