The Marquette University men’s tennis team (2-1) capped a successful weekend with a 7-0 victory over UIC (1-3) Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles, who are in the midst of a five-match homestand, defeated IUPUI 6-1 Friday night for the team’s first dual win of the campaign.

MU opened the contest by claiming the doubles point. The Golden Eagle tandems of junior Dan Mamalat and sophomore Vukasin Teofanovic, along with junior Logon Collins and sophomore Cameron Tehrani, posted victories at the top two positions for the second-straight day.

After Mamalat and freshman Javier Varela Hernani posted quick wins in singles, Teofanovic clinched the team win with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 decision of UIC’s Alexander Raa at the No. 2 spot. The victory for Varela Hernani was his first for MU in dual action.

Also claiming singles decisions for Marquette were Tehrani, Collins and freshmen Gleb Sklyr.

MU continues its schedule Saturday, Feb. 9 when the squad hosts a doubleheader against South Dakota State and Western Illinois. Play begins at 10 a.m. CT.
