Golden Eagles Fall 6-1 At No. 58 Louisville

Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team (2-2) wrapped up a weekend road swing with a 6-1 loss at No. 58 Louisville (4-0) Sunday afternoon in dual match action. The Cardinals opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Marquette's duo of Stephen Shao and Pete Van Lieshout did earn an 8-5 win at No. 2, downing UofL's David Simon and Kenneth Nordheim. Louisville was able to post straight-set wins at five of the six singles slots to secure the win. Marquette sophomore Mark Rutherford claimed the squad's lone singles victory on the afternoon, posting a 6-4, 7-6 decision over Robert Rotaru. The Golden Eagles opened the weekend with a tough 4-3 loss at Purdue Saturday afternoon. Marquette returns to action on Feb. 1 when the team opens a six-match homestand at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center.
