The Marquette University men’s tennis team (3-2) posted a 7-0 victory over UIC Sunday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles posted wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to claim an early 1-0 advantage and continued their strong play into singles action.

Freshman Mackenzie Stearns, who joined the program at semester, gave Marquette a 2-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles for his first collegiate victory. Junior Vukasin Teofanovic and freshman Kristiyan Trukov quickly followed with straight-set victories to secure the team victory.

“I thought the depth of our roster was a factor today,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We were able to play a bunch of guys throughout the lineup and I was happy to see Mackenzie pick up his first win.”

Also posting singles wins for Marquette were seniors Logon Collins and Dan Mamalat. MU returns to action Feb. 8 at Princeton before facing Penn on Feb. 9.
