Men's Tennis Sweeps Past Eastern Illinois, 7-0

Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team (4-2) defeated Eastern Illinois 7-0 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action, remaining undefeated at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center in the process. The Golden Eagles, who didn't drop a set versus the Panthers, have now posted four 7-0 dual match victories this season. MU also swept pass Southern Illinois Saturday afternoon. Marquette shuffled its doubles lineup, featuring a pair of duos playing together for the first time in 2007-08. Sophomores Mark Rutherford and Niko Boulieris teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 and the duo of Graydon Klassen and Brett Binkley did the same at No. 3, 8-2. Both combinations were making their respective season debuts. The team's strong play continued into singles action, where MU posted straight-set victories at all six positions. Rutherford clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over EIU's Sean Bush at the No. 4 position. Senior Greg Sirotek was inserted into the lineup at No. 6 and responded with a 6-1, 7-6 decision. The Golden Eagles continue their six-match homestand on Feb. 8 when the team hosts Xavier at 4 p.m.
