The Marquette University men’s tennis team (3-1) edged Toledo Friday night, claiming a narrow 4-3 non-conference victory at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Due to injury and illness, head coach Steve Rodecap was forced to shuffle his singles and doubles lineups against the Rockets.

“I was really happy with the way our guys responded and stepped up,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We were shorthanded and our depth really came through, especially at the bottom of the lineup.”

The Rockets opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point, but the Golden Eagles were able to claim four of the singles contests to earn the team win. Junior Andre Romanello clinched the win with a dramatic 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 decision at the No. 6 spot.

Also earning wins for MU were Greg Anderson, Kristiyan Trukov and Brett Meyers.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their season-long four-match homestand at 6 p.m. Saturday night when they host South Dakota State. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT.
