Feb. 4, 2010
Milwaukee -
The Marquette University men's tennis team (5-0) extended its winning streak to five matches following the team's 5-2 victory of Toledo (3-2) Thursday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Marquette opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matchups to move ahead 1-0. Senior Dusan Medan and freshman Jacob Straus made quick work of their opponents from Toledo in an 8-1 victory, clinching the point after a win by the No. 2 tandem of Mark Rutherford and Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley. Straus and senior Niko Boulieris posted straight-set singles wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively, to give MU a 3-0 advantage. Medan clinched the team victory with a tough 6-4, 7-6 decision over UT's Nutthavit Likitkumchorn at the No. 1 spot. Medan is now 15-5 on the year overall and 4-0 in dual matches. Straus paces the squad with a 16-3 overall mark and has won 10 of his last 11 outings. Also earning a win for MU was Crowley, who downed the Rockets' Aleksandar Elezovic 6-4, 7-5.
After a busy start to the dual match campaign, the Golden Eagles will not return to the court until hosting Green Bay on Feb. 12.
