Men's Tennis Sweeps Visiting NIU, 7-0

The Marquette men's tennis team handed Northern Illinois its second straight loss Friday night in Milwaukee, 7-0.

The Golden Eagles (3-1) swept the doubles point and won every singles decision, including a 6-0, 6-0 domination by junior Jonathan Schwerin over Bryant Poggensee-Wei at the No. 4 spot.

Doubles action was highlighted by the 8-1 decision of sophomore Jose Gutierrez Crowley and freshman Dan Mamalat at No. 2 doubles, who improve to 3-0.

Sophomore Otavio Permin earned his first singles match of the season at No. 5 singles, tallying a 6-1, 6-2 win over Maksym Lagutin. Mamalat remained undefeated in dual action with his fourth win, his second from No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Gutierrez Crowley, senior Jose Manuel Munoz and freshman Logon Collins also captured singles victories.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 1-2 on the season.

Head coach Steve Rodecap's squad has a quick turnaround, hosting UIC on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
