MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's tennis team wrapped up a perfect weekend of competition with a 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois-Chicago Saturday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season, while UIC falls to 1-5 overall.

Marquette opened competition by picking up the doubles point after Jonathan Schwerin and Jose Manuel Munoz captured their No. 1 doubles match over Scott Shepardson and Luiz Gonzaga and MU's Otavio Perim and Thibault Troude defeated Rahul Kamath and Alan Reifer in No. 3 doubles.

Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley notched his second No. 1 singles victory of the weekend and fourth of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over freshman Alexander Raa of the Flames.

Marquette freshman Dan Mamalat cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in No. 2 singles over Gonzaga, while fellow freshman Logon Collins defeated Kamath in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, Marquette received a hard-fought comeback victory from Munoz over UIC's James Li, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-7).

The Golden Eagles' lone defeat came in No. 5 singles where UIC's Alan Reifer defeated sophomore Otavio Perim in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

Marquette returns to action at Michigan State on Friday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
