Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader Saturday At Home
Feb. 9, 2013
The Golden Eagles, who have now claimed four victories in a row, cap a busy weekend against Bradley Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
The MU coaching staff focused on the team's doubles play in the week leading up until Saturday's competition and the efforts were rewarded with wins in each of the six matchups, which allowed the Golden Eagles to claim the valuable doubles point.
Juniors Dan Mamalat and Logon Collins led the way for Marquette, collecting four total victories at the top of the lineup. The duo earned two wins at the No. 1 doubles spot and Mamalat was a straight-set winner at No. 1 singles. Collins accomplished the same feat at No. 2 singles.
"I was really happy to see Starky (James Stark) get through that match," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "He has been struggling with confidence and he really stayed the course and showed great fortitude at the end. He works tremendously hard and means a lot to our program and was happy he pulled through.
"I saw some good things out of the doubles team of Packowitz and Sklyr and we will need them to continue to grow with each other," Rodecap added. "Dan (Mamalat) was lights out in singles and that certainly helped the guys around him. I wasn't pleased with Javier's first singles match and I was pleased he responded in the second match of the day. We will need to be sharp tomorrow against a good Bradley team."
