The Marquette University men’s tennis team (4-3) picked up a 5-2 non-conference victory at Penn Sunday afternoon.

MU finished the weekend with a 1-1 record after falling 4-3 at Princeton on Saturday afternoon.

“I was really pleased with the way the guys responded after Saturday’s tough loss,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We did some good things in doubles and finished the matches we needed to in singles.”

The Golden Eagles opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matchups to claim the valuable point. The MU tandem of senior Dan Mamalat and junior Vukasin Teofanovic posted a quick 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles and the duo of freshman Nick Dykema and junior Cameron Tehrani clinched the point with a tough 6-5 decision at the No. 3 spot.

After Penn tied the score at 1-1, Mamalat put Marquette in front with a straight-set win at the top singles position. After senior Logon Collins claimed a narrow 6-5, 6-5 win at No. 3, Teofanovic clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Vim DeAlwis at No. 2.

Marquette opens a four-match homestand Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT when the team faces Wright State at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
