The Marquette University men’s tennis team (5-1) wrapped up a five-match homestand with a 5-0 non-conference victory over Northern Illinois (7-3) Sunday afternoon, the squad’s fifth-straight win.

The Golden Eagles return to action at rival Wisconsin on Thursday, Feb. 15. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.

MU opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point with a win at the No. 1 position. NIU was poised to tie the contest at 5-5, but three-straight points by junior Alvaro Verdu and sophomore Brett Meyers allowed the top tandem to claim the win.

Marquette made quick work of the Huskies in singles, claiming four straight-set wins to earn the team decision. Sophomore Brett Meyers clinched the victory and classmate Brandon Shanklin, junior Greg Anderson and freshman Luis Heredia Gomez all earned wins as well.
