Marquette Rallies For 4-3 Victory At UT-San Antonio
Feb. 13, 2009
San Antonio, Texas -
The Marquette University men's tennis team (5-2) rallied for a 4-3 non-conference victory at UT-San Antonio (2-5) Friday night on the road.
The Golden Eagles claimed four of the six singles matches after dropping the doubles point to earn the victory. Senior Trent Hagan capped the comeback with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 decision at No. 1 singles against UTSA's Rodrigo Morgado. Hagan, who was down a break in the third set, is now 5-2 in dual competition.
"I thought it was a true team effort today and was especially proud of the seniors," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We didn't play very well in doubles and each guy was able to put that behind him. Each singles match was important and everyone competed at a high level."
Junior Dusan Medan tied the match at 1-1 following his 6-4, 7-6 victory at the No. 2 position over Pedro Zanotelli. Victories by Stephen Shao (No. 4) and Mark Rutherford (No. 5) gave MU a 3-2 advantage, but freshman Drake Kakar dropped a hard-fought contest at No. 6 to Daniel Moreiras, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 to set the score at 3-3.
Hagan's performance, however, allowed Marquette to complete the comeback.
MU concludes its weekend action against No. 63 Nebraska Saturday morning.
