Marquette Opens Homestand With 7-0 Win Over WSU

The Marquette University men's tennis team (5-3) opened a four-match homestand Thursday night with a 7-0 victory against Wright State at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles will have a week to prepare for three home matches in two days on Feb. 21-22.

MU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Senior Dan Mamalat and junior Vukasin Teofanovic posted a quick 6-2 win at the top spot against their WSU opponents and freshman Nick Dykema and junior Cameron Tehrani did the same at No. 3, winning 6-1.

Teofanovic concluded his impressive evening with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Hayden Joblin at No. 2 to give Marquette a 2-0 advantage. Freshman Kristiyan Trukov followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 and now leads the roster with 14 singles wins.

Tehrani clinched the team victory with a win at No. 5 and Mamalat improved to 6-1 in dual competition with a tough 6-5, 3-6, 1-0 win at No. 1. He won the first set after trailing 5-1 in the tiebreaker and cruised 10-3 in the match breaker.

Dykema and xx also claimed singles wins for Marquette.
