Marquette Falls At Wisconsin, 6-1
Feb. 15, 2018
The Marquette University men’s tennis team (5-2) dropped a 6-1 decision at Wisconsin (5-4) Thursday night in non-conference action at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The loss snapped the squad’s five-match winning streak, with each of those victories coming at home. MU will return to action when the squad hosts Toledo at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The valuable doubles point came down to the wire, with the Badgers able to earn it with a tiebreaker win at No. 3. UW features the third-ranked doubles tandem in the nation, but after falling at the top spot MU’s Greg Anderson and Luis Heredia Gomez were able to earn a 6-4 win at No. 2. Unfortunately, sophomore Luke Smrek and senior Scott Christian came up just short at No. 3.
The Badgers carried the momentum over to singles action and posted a trio of straight-set wins to claim the team victory. Sophomore Brett Meyers was able to get MU on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 5.
