Marquette Drops 6-1 Decision At No. 40 Wisconsin
Feb. 16, 2011
The Marquette University men’s tennis team (4-4) dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 40 Wisconsin (2-3) Wednesday night in non-conference action.
The Golden Eagles, in the midst of a five-match road swing, claimed just one singles victory on the night. Freshman Dan Mamalat posted a win at the No. 2 position over UW’s Ricardo Martin. Martin was forced to retire after Mamalat claimed the first set 7-6.
Wisconsin claimed the doubles point with victories at two of the three positions. MU’s Otavio Perim and Thibault Troude claimed an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot and after a Badger win at No. 2, the valuable doubles point came down to the top match. Senior Jose Manuel Munoz and junior Jonathan Schwerin put up a good battle against the 40th-ranked duo in the nation, but eventually dropped an 8-6 decision.
Marquette returns to action at Clemson on Saturday, Feb. 19.
