The Marquette University men’s tennis team (5-3) posted a pair of non-conference victories at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium Saturday, downing Western Illinois and South Dakota State by identical 7-0 scores.

The Golden Eagles are now a perfect 5-0 at home this season. Marquette swept all six doubles matches on the day in convincing fashion and and didn’t drop one set in the 12 singles contests.

Marquette didn’t drop a set in the win over WIU and no player lost more than four games total in singles competition. Freshman David Packowitz made his dual match debut for MU and posted a quick 6-0, 6-0 decision over WIU’s Justin Liss at the No. 6 position. The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming all three doubles contests to move ahead 1-0.

MU followed the same script in the nightcap, claiming each of the three doubles contests before cruising through singles competition.

Marquette returns to action Feb. 22 when the team travels to rival Wisconsin. Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
