The Marquette University men’s tennis team (5-3) dropped a 4-3 decision at No. 75 Wisconsin (6-1) Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Badgers opened the match by claiming the doubles point, posting wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The point came down to the third spot, with Marquette’s David Packowitz and Gleb Sklyr falling 8-5 to a UW tandem.

Junior Dan Mamalat tied the score at 1-1 with a quick 6-2, 6-4 decision at the No. 1 spot over Wisconsin’s Billy Bertha. Unfortunately for MU, UW would post three-straight singles wins of its own to earn the team victory.

Marquette wouldn’t go down without a fight, however, claiming the final two singles matchups for the 4-3 final score. Junior Logon Collins claimed a 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (3) win at the No. 3 spot and sophomore Vukasin Teofanovic held off UW’s Oskar Wikberg 7-6, 1-6, 7-6 at the No. 2 position.

MU was victories at the top three singles spots, but wasn’t able to find the necessary fourth point after dropping the doubles point.

The Golden Eagles return to action Friday night at 5 p.m. CT when the squad opens a five-match homestand against Valpraiso at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
