Golden Eagles Claim Pair Of 7-0 Wins Over Villanova & UMKC

The Marquette University men’s tennis team (9-0) extended its dual-match winning streak to nine outings following a pair of 7-0 victories over Villanova and UMKC Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles dropped just one doubles matchup and two total sets in singles action on the day. MU has now posted six 7-0 victories in 2010 and continues its 11-match homestand Sunday morning against Cleveland State.
Senior Mark Rutherford teamed up with Jonathan Schwerin to claim a pair of doubles victories and is now tied with former teammate Brett Binkley for career doubles victories (94) at Marquette. Classmate Dusan Medan, ranked 88th in the nation, posted a pair of straight-set victories at the No. 1 position and is now 19-5 overall and 8-0 in dual competition.
MU claimed two of the three doubles matchups and dropped just one set in singles action against Villanova, the team’s first league opponent of the campaign.
