The Marquette University men’s tennis team (6-3) opened a five-match homestand Friday night with a 7-0 victory over Valparaiso (4-5) at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The victory snapped a two-match losing skid on the road and improved MU’s record at home this season to 6-0. All three of the team’s losses this season have come to nationally ranked opponents.

“I was pleased with the way the guys responded after Wednesday night’s tough loss at Wisconsin,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “It was good to see us set the tone with strong performances in doubles and that carried over to singles play.”

The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at all three positions. The MU tandem of junior Logon Collins and sophomore Cameron Tehrani clinched the point with an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.

MU quickly captured the team victory with three quick singles wins and ended up dropping just two sets the entire evening.

Marquette returns to action Saturday afternoon when the squad faces Toledo at 4 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Rockets downed the Golden Eagles 4-3 in 2010-11 the last time the two teams met.
