March 3, 2006
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Marquette men's tennis team earned a victory today at the HEB Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas, defeating University of Texas-Pan American, 4-0. "We moved around the lineup a little bit today and were able to get a win in doubles," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Ian and Eigis had not been playing well in doubles but won a close match today, which I'm hoping will give them a little confidence for tomorrow." Eigis Vedrickas and Ian Kawas defeated Nick Porter and Andrew Bost, 8-5, at no. 2, while Trent Hagan and Stephen Shao got the job done at no. 3, against Enrique Montemayor and Dany Farias, 8-0. "Trent and Shao won pretty single handedly," Rodecap said. "We have been focusing on not giving up any easy points and I thought they did a good job of that." Shao was able to get an early lead on the Bronc's Montemeyor, and never looked back, winning, 6-0, 6-1. Greg Sirotek gave Marquette their second singles victory by taking down Farias, 6-1, 6-0, at no. 6. The Golden Eagles sealed the win, when Brett Binkley took the match at no. 3, by overtaking Bost, 6-0, 6-2. "Shao and Greg won pretty quickly in singles and Brett got a win for us at no. 4," Rodecap said. "Getting off the court early is important because it's extremely hot here. We now will rest up and drink lots of fluids and get ready for tomorrow." Marquette will take on UNLV tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. UNLV defeated Texas-San Antonio today, 4-0. "UNLV is a really good team, so we are looking forward to playing them tomorrow," Rodecap said. -COMPLETE RESULTS- Singles
