IRVINE, Calif. - The Marquette men's tennis team got singles wins from Niko Boulieris, Otavio Perim and Jacob Straus, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles fell 4-3 at No. 48 UC Irvine Sunday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The loss puts Marquette at 11-4 overall. 

The Anteaters came away with the doubles point after winning two of three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Jonathan Schwerin and Mark Rutheford took down Sam Gould and Khunpol Issara, 9-7, for MU's lone doubles win of the day.

UC Irvine went ahead 3-0 with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles before Marquette earned wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to come within a point, 3-2.

Perim defeated Stephen Sage, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 and Boulieris downed Shimpei Suzuki, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3.

The Anteaters clinched the victory with a win at No. 6 as Issara pulled out a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over Schwerin.

Straus defeated Ryan Mayer 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5 for MU's final point of the match.

The Golden Eagles will continue their West Coast road trip on Tuesday, March 16 against Marist in Los Angeles, Calif.
