Marquette Edges NAU 4-3 On The Road
March 14, 2015
The Marquette University men's tennis team (7-8) picked up a non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon, edging Northern Arizona (2-7) 4-3 in Las Vegas, Nev.
The victory came one day after dropping a 4-3 decision at UNLV.
MU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, posting wins at the top two positions. Junior Daniel Fernandez and senior Vukasin Teofanovic earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 and sophomores Nick Dykema and Kristiyan Trukov did the same at No. 2.
The top of the singles lineup proved to be enough for MU to claim the team win as the Golden Eagles earned wins at each of the top three spots. Fernandez clinched the victory with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Teofanovic claimed a quick straight-set outing at No. 2 and Dykema also rallied for a win after dropping the first set.
Marquette returns to action on March 21 when the team travels to Xavier to face its first BIG EAST Conference opponent of the campaign.
