The Marquette University men's tennis team (13-4) claimed a tough 4-3 victory over Loyola Marymount (6-8) on the road afternoon, thanks to a clutch win by senior Mark Rutherford.

Trailing 3-2 after three-straight singles wins by the Lions, senior Dusan Medan knotted the score at 3-3 with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 decision at the No. 1 position. Rutherford secured the match-clinching win with a gutty 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 victory over LMU's Otto Sauer.

Marquette opened the day by claiming the valuable doubles points for a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Otavio Perim and Niko Boulieris claimed an 8-3 win at the No. 3 spot and the tandem of Medan/Jacob Straus cliniched the point with an 8-6 decision at No. 2.

Straus also earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 position in singles play. The Golden Eagles wrap up their week-long trip to California on Saturday when the team faces Nevada in San Diego, Calif.
