MU Downs Green Bay 7-0 In Non-League Action At Home
March 25, 2009
The Marquette University men's tennis team (12-6) extended their home court winning streak to six matches with a 7-0 victory over Green Bay (5-7) Wednesday in non-conference action at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles are now 10-1 overall on campus this season, with all of those victories coming via a perfect 7-0 final score. MU hasn't dropped a decision at home since Jan. 27.
Three straight-set victories in the middle of the lineup secured the four points needed for the team victory. Senior Stephen Shao was the first to finish, downing UWGB's Matt Keesey 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. Junior Dusan Medan quickly followed with a win at No. 2 and junior Niko Boulieris sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over the Phoenix' Eric Plaushines.
Marquette opened the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to claim an early 1-0 advantage. The squad has earned the valuable doubles point in 11 of the squad's 12 victories this season.
MU caps the home portion of its 2008-09 regular season when the team hosts Wright State Saturday at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles will finish the year with four-straight matches on the road before the BIG EAST Conference Championships in Tampa, Fla.
