The Marquette University men’s tennis team (11-8) opened the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Green Bay (10-7) Friday night in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday when the team hosts BIG EAST opponent Xavier. The women’s team also plays the Musketeers at Noon CT and students in attendance will receive free pizza at both matches.

MU opened the match by claiming the valuable doubles point. Senior Dan Mamalat and junior Vukasin Teofanovic were the first to finish, posting an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot. After falling at No. 2, the Marquette duo of junior Cameron Tehrani and freshman Nick Dykema rallied for an 8-6 decision at No. 3.

Tehrani and Dykema were also victorious in singles action, posting quick straight-set wins to give MU a 3-0 advantage. Tehrani earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over GB’s Rowan Isaaks and Dykema claimed a 6-4, 6-0 matchup over Joey Leto.

Mamalat clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Green Bay’s Michael Tenzer at the No. 1 spot. The Philadelphia, Pa., native rallied to claim the second set and is now 13-5 in dual matches this season.
