The Marquette University men's tennis team (9-9) opened its three-match homestand with a 6-1 victory over Creighton (6-6) Friday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles, who were playing at home for the first time since March 5, host Xavier at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning to conclude the weekend's action.

MU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, posting wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The tandem of senior Daniel Fernandez and junior Nick Dykema clinched the point with a 6-2 decision over August Nysted and Harrison Lang of Creighton at the No. 1 spot.

Marquette carried the momentum into singles play and a trio of straight-set wins clinched the team victory. Junior Mackenzie Stearns was the first to finish and sophomore Andre Romanello quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6. Fernandez earned MU's fourth point with a 6-4, 6-4 result at No. 1 and now owns seven victories in dual action.

Also claiming singles wins for MU on Friday afternoon were freshmen Alvaro Verdu and Greg Anderson.
