MU Opens Road Swing With 7-0 Victory At Georgetown

The Marquette University men's tennis team (14-6) opened its season-long four-match road trip with a 7-0 victory over Georgetown Friday afternoon at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va.
The Golden Eagles have now won five outings in a row and six of their last seven. Each of the decisions has been by a perfect 7-0 final score.
Marquette swept all three doubles matches against the Hoyas and dropped just one set in the six singles outings.
MU's doubles tandem of junior Mark Rutherford and freshman Jonathan Schwerin posted a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 position, earning one of three close victories for the Golden Eagles in doubles competition. The duo is now 14-8 overall on the season, including an 11-4 effort in dual action.
Five of the six players to see action in singles posted straight-set wins, including junior Dusan Medan at No. 2 and Rutherford at No. 5. Medan tops the roster with 25 singles victories and Rutherford is second, owning 24 wins.
The team continues its road trip Saturday afternoon at fellow BIG EAST member Villanova. Opening serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
