The Marquette University men's tennis team (9-12) wrapped up the home portion of its 2011-12 campaign Sunday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium with a 4-3 victory over Northern Illinois (18-6) on Senior Day.

The matchup against the Huskies was the final home contest for seniors Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin and Marquette's win snapped an eight-match winning streak for NIU.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Schwerin and sophomore Dan Mamalat wrapped up action first with an 8-3 victory at the top spot. Kakar and freshman Vukasin Teofanovic, playing just their second match of the season as a duo, clinched the point with an 8-4 decision over NIU's Max Phillips and Frederic Cadiieux.

A pair of NIU singles victories gave the Huskies a brief 2-1 lead, but the Golden Eagles would run off three-straight wins to claim the team win. Teofanovic slipped past NIU's Roman Turtygin 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) at the No. 2 spot and Mamalat rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 decision at the top singles position to give MU a 3-2 advantage.

Kakar, already in possession of a doubles victory on the day, capped his home career with a match-clinching win at the No. 6 spot. He downed NIU's Phillips 6-3, 6-4 to help MU finish 7-2 at home in 2011-12.

The Golden Eagles will travel to league rival DePaul on April 14 to conclude the regular season before competing in the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Championships (April 19-22) in Tampa, Fla.
