MU Opens Florida Trip With 5-2 Victory At UCF Friday

Orlando - The Marquette University men's tennis team (16-6) opened its final road swing of the season with a 5-2 non-conference victory at UCF (10-10) Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles have now won seven outings in a row and eight of their last nine. Friday's victory is the first during the team's winning streak that hasn't been by a perfect 7-0 final score.
Marquette opened the contest by sweeping all three doubles matches to jump out to an early 1-0 advantage. Junior Dusan Medan and senior Stephen Shao collected an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 position to earn the valuable doubles point.
MU picked up wins in four of the singles matchups, with freshman Jonathan Schwerin claiming the team victory with his 7-6, 6-2 decision over UCF's Danny Colon at the No. 6 position. Also capturing singles wins for the Golden Eagles were Trent Hagan, Dusan Medan and Mark Rutherford.
The team will conclude its regular season at USF on Monday afternoon and remain in Tampa for the 2009 BIG EAST Conference Championship.
