After the Phoenix closed the gap to 2-1, MU responded with singles victories by Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and Logon Collins at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions, respectively, to clinch the team win. Each player’s afternoon included a tiebreaker victory in the straight-set decision.
Freshman Dan Mamalat rallied for an impressive win at No. 2, downing Paul Swanson 5-7, 6-0, 6-4. Mamalat trailed 3-0 in the deciding third set and put MU ahead 5-1 on the scoreboard. Perim also claimed his singles matchup at the No. 4 spot to close out the day’s scoring.
