The Marquette University men's tennis team (12-9) defeated rival DePaul (11-11) 6-1 Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Sunday's match concluded the regular season for the Golden Eagles. The BIG EAST Championship opens play on Friday morning in Indianapolis, Ind., and the league office will announce the eight-team bracket on Monday afternoon.

MU opened the match by claiming the doubles point in dramatic fashion. Head coach Steve Rodecap mixed up his doubles lineup at the top two positions and it worked for both tandems. Senior Vukasin Teofanovic, who was honored in pregame ceremony along with classmate Cameron Tehrani, teamed up with sophomore Nick Dykema to claim an 8-4 win at No. 1.

Sophomore Mackenzie Stearns and junior Daniel Fernandez clinched the point with an 8-7 decision at No. 2. The match went to a tiebreaker and after falling behind 7-6 (led 6-4), Marquette's duo rattled off three-straight points to secure the victory.

Fernandez made quick work of DPU's David Vieyra at the No. 1 spot to push MU ahead 2-0 and fittingly, Tehrani and Teofanovic clinched the team victory with straight-set wins of their own at the No. 6 and No. 2 positions, respectively.

Sophomores Kristiyan Trukov and Mackenzie Stearns also both claimed singles wins.
