The Marquette University men’s tennis team (15-8) picked up a 6-1 victory over Butler (10-9) Sunday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The victory improved MU’s record to 11-0 at home in 2013-14 and improved its record to 4-0 against BIG EAST Conference opponents. The Golden Eagles have now won five-straight outings.

Senior Dan Mamalat improved to 20-9 on the year in singles with a straight-set win at No. 1 and tied Dusan Medan’s (2007-10) Marquette record for career singles wins (88) in the process.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point, earning wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Junior Cameron Tehrani and freshman Nick Dykema were the first to finish, claiming an 8-3 win at No. 2. Mamalat and Vukasin Teofanovic followed suit at No. 1 by rallying for an 8-6 win after trailing 6-4 to the tandem from Butler.

Mamalat’s win pushed MU ahead 2-0 and Teofanovic and Tehrani quickly followed suit to clinch the team win for Marquette. Senior Logon Collins and freshman Kristiyan Trukov were also victorious in singles action on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles will learn their seeding in the upcoming BIG EAST Conference Tournament Monday afternoon, which will be held April 24-27 at the US National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
